Every scene is the result of many people’s work, from the director, screenwriter and producer to the picture editor. It was important to coordinate with all the production departments, including within our own team. A single sound is often created through the combined work of several departments.
Once all the sounds have been assembled, the task is to make sure that none gets in another’s way: the music should not distract from the dialogue, the crash of the saucer should not interfere with the music, and a passing truck should not distract the audience from what matters most. During the mix, we mixed music and effects, added destruction and screams, then returned to music and effects. The idea was for the audience to hear everything. Achieving that meant carefully shaping how the layers worked together to convey the intended emotion.
“Attraction” to one another — perhaps this could be the tagline for the second film, “Invasion”.
